Mora County Marriages
1875-1890

These records from a Mora County Marriage Book were compiled from photocopies belonging to Martha Gardner, an early NMGS member. The entire marriage book was published over five issues of the New Mexico Genealogist: July 1964, pp. 44-46; Jan 1965, pp. 9-10; Jun 1968, pp. 17-18; Sep 1968, pp. 28-29; and December 1968, pp. 36-38.

Transcription: The information is published here as it was presented in the book and submitted to the Genealogist, including the way names were spelled by the recorder. If using your browser's "find" feature to search for a name, be sure to try alternate spellings as well. Underlined letters indicate a question in transcribing the handwriting. The entries were not made in strict chronological order, so you will find exceptions, such as an 1873 application entered after 1880, and a very early (1857) marriage was recorded in March 1887 (Entry #105).

As the law required all marriage records be sent to the County Clerk, the book included marriages performed by Catholic priests as well as civil marriages. Legibility of any document is often questionable and open to interpretation. For that reason, we encourage searchers to, whenever possible, consult the source material themselves. The original book is housed at the New Mexico State Records Center and Archives, 1205 Camino Carlos Rey, Santa Fe, NM.

Our thanks to NMGS members Toni Gomez-Giovanetti and Armando Sandoval for assistance in preparing this material for the web site.

*Note: Recordings of marriages performed by Protestant ministers sometimes refer to the Methodist Episcopal Church. Various styles of entry, some even quite puzzling, were used by the different people recording the information. Their individual style has been retained. More information about that church may be found at A History of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
