From the first few paragraphs of the Preface:
"The 1790 Spanish colonial census of the Province
of New Mexico, together with the 1823 and 1845 Mexican
censuses of the area, provides a valuable genealogical
tool for research on early New Mexican families. The original
enumerations were for tax purposes, but their historic
value is tremendous.
[The introduction includes abbreviations for ethnic derivations
used in these censuses.]
"The 1823 Mexican census has a wealth of family
information but is, unfortunately, the most fragmentary
of the three enumerations."

of the Santa Fe area, see the Santa
Fe census of 1821, NMGS Book B -5. It covers Santa
Fe and surrounding areas.] |
